Vincent Montgomery's guide to the merfolk page by keniakittykat Vincent Montgomery's guide to the merfolk page by keniakittykat
A book I'm working on.
It's going to be a fictional biology journal from Victorian traveler 'Vincent Montgomery'. This is just a preview page and the Lorem Ipsum in Hylian script is in English in the finished book.

Hylian font can be found right here: Skyward Sword Ancient Hylian - Font

This is very good concept. One of my favorite grips is when mermaids have 'Knees'. I often say that if they were bent at that angle then they would be DEAD. Your illustration clearly makes my point!

Thanks, those 'knees' bug me as well. There's no need for a stiff thighbone and a hinge joint in a mermaid tail. It makes no sense. A dolphin has also just an elongated spine, it has to be fast, agile and flexible, and that's just not possible when your tail only bends one way.

The fact that the little fins actually have a place, in the grand scheme of the bone structure? Great detail!

Thanks, it just made sense. I just thought that a mermaid's fins would work like batwings, with the flexible bones, and a dolphin's flippers, which also still have hand-like bones in them.

Awesome! Man, if I was employed, I'd buy your book, just to have this as a reference, on hand!

It's far from finished. And if I find employment myself it might even take longer. But when its don't I'm not gonna be an asshat and charge a small fortune for it. ^^

Fascinating, even solid anatomical thought, and the art and layout are lovely.  A Favorite!
